Another Weekend in the Books

Yeah, it's Wednesday already. I started back to work this week (part-time and from home) so every minute I can be on the computer has been spent working. But, I did want to share a new food find!

It's been 9 weeks since I had our baby girl but it seems my husband is still being affected by pregnancy cravings. He has been wanting Asian food just about every night, which, is totally odd for him because he never really ate it before and now he can't have enough.

We both really like Thai food and heard about this place in midtown called My Thai Kitchen. I looked it up on urbanspoon (it has 100% rating) and the Tulsa Food Blog (they have a link to the menu) so we decided to try it out.

The food was great and reasonably priced but it wasn't the type of place you might have for a date night like Lanna Thai. Nothing fancy, just good food.

We tried the steamed mussels for an appetizer - good, but I probably won't order them again. They were $6.95.

I had the chicken pad Thai and thought it was great! I asked for a lime and the added lime juice really kicked it up! It was $7.75.

The husband ordered beef Panang. Although he was craving noodles, he didn't realized it came with rice, he was still very pleased with his meal. His was $8.25.

We'll definitely be going back. If you're in the midtown area and craving Thai, try it out! And let me know what you think.

Anyway, remember this post? The barbecue we ate in Kansas City is coming to Tulsa!!! Yay for Oklahoma Joes!!

Chipotle and Orange Pork Tacos

photo from Tasty Kitchen

Another Tasty Kitchen recipe trial and success! I needed an easy slow-cooker recipe and found this one that looked delicious so I had to try it out. Turns out it's my husband's new favorite taco recipe!

All you have to do is zest and juice two oranges.

Preparing Chipotle and Orange Pork Tacos

Chop up some garlic and chipotle peppers.

Season the pork and then sear it.

Then put the orange juice and zest in the crock pot, followed by the seared pork and then spread the garlic and chopped chipotles with adobo sauce on the meat. Cover and cook for 6 hours.

After the pork has cooked, take it out and start pulling it apart with a fork.

Grab some corn tortillas and make your masterpiece! I combined diced red onion, cilantro and fresh lime juice to put on top of the tacos, along with sliced avocado. Delicious!

Big Girls Do Cry

Sweet P is 8 weeks old now and it absolutely amazes me how fast she's grown and how fast time with her has just flown by. I have enjoyed just about every single moment with her - with the exception of yesterday.

She had her 8 week checkup which meant she got her 2 month immunizations.

She cried.

I cried.

It was not pretty.

I have never heard the screams that came out of my sweet little baby girl. It was awful but after a few minutes of sobbing I pulled myself together.

Joking. After a few minutes of her screaming I was finally able to calm her down. Which, in itself is pretty beautiful. I love that I can comfort her. It's an amazing feeling.

I just wish she didn't need comforting. I wish she could go through life without ever being hurt again or ever having a reason to cry again. But, she'll get more shots, she'll fall down and she'll have plenty of reasons to cry. I'm just so thankful I will be there to hold her and comfort her - even when my tears are falling on her little cheeks and I can't tell which tears are hers or mine.

Lovey Duds Baby Wrap

I love my Lovey Duds baby wrap!

Because I don't like carrying Sweet P around in her carrier everywhere, I decided to get a wrap. The hardest part was deciding on what color and pattern to order. I really wanted a white wrap with some sort of orange panel, but, I couldn't find one and didn't want to wait for a custom order.

So I did the unthinkable. I ordered one with a blue/green paisley print. I don't want TONS of paisley print stuff but I guess a few things here and there are okay. Not to mention, the wrap is super cute!!

This is my view...I love it. It puts Sweet P's head at the perfect position for kissing and nuzzling.

And here's my girl in the wrap.

You can find Lovey Duds online and on etsy. Check it out.

Whoa What a Weekend

Warning! If you are vegetarian or vegan - DO NOT read this.

We kicked the weekend off by taking Sweet P to her first festival! The Rock 'n Rib Festival was going on this weekend downtown in front of the BOK Center. So Friday afternoon we headed out to try some award winning ribs. It was a bit warm to be walking around gnawing meat off a bone, but we still had a good time and the ribs were awesome.

If you've never been, you should try making it out next year. If you go before 5pm on Thursday or Friday you don't have to pay to get in.
Sweet P's first Festival!

There were several vendors set up so we had to check them all out before deciding on the one to try.

It was a tough decision because they all smelled so good. But, we finally agreed to try Johnson's.

Mmm. Meat.

Johnson's was a good choice as this is all the was left:

We are still working on tiling our kitchen and with a stove in the middle of the room, I couldn't cook the entire weekend. So Friday we took Sweet P for some Senior Tequila's for dinner!

Mmm, chips, salsa and queso. Plus, a great sleeping baby!

Sleeping baby until the crazy women drinking margaritas woke her up!

We headed on home and got some sleep for a full Saturday of working on the floor again. As we tiled, we enjoyed listening to our Cowboys beat the Hurricanes 65-28!
WHAT!? Another OSU touchdown!?

Go Pokes!! Sorry TU.

OSU receiver Justin Blackmon hauls in a touchdown catch as TU's John Flanders tries to defend Saturday in Stillwater. Blackmon caught six passes for 174 yards and three scores. TOM GILBERT / Tulsa World

Dad brought over some treats from Dunkin' Donuts!

Mom came over and brought us lunch from Hideaway and watched Sweet P so we could finish laying the remaining tile in the kitchen. Tiles are all laid and now all we have left to do is the grout!!! I'm ready to have my kitchen back.

This was not a great weekend for a new mom to lose that lingering baby weight...oh well! It tasted good and we were very productive. Hope you had a tasty weekend!!

Homemade Banana Bread Muffins (with chocolate chips!)

FRIDAY FOOD DAY!

Homemade Banana Bread Muffins with Chocolate Chips

Here's another recipe from Tasty Kitchen! I think this is my new favorite place to find recipes!

I've never made homemade banana bread so I don't really know how this recipe compares, but it was SO simple and fast...and delicious.

I didn't have any muffin tin liners so I made mini-muffins instead. I kind of like mini things better anyway, you can just pop them right in your mouth and they're gone!

So here's my photo tutorial for making banana bread with chocolate chips...

Admitting My Weakness

Apparently it means you are mature if you can admit your weakness, so my weakness?

Donuts!

Donuts are to me what kryptonite is to Superman...they make me weak.

And I'm not too biased. I like donuts of all flavors, brands, shapes and sizes.

This became pretty obvious while I was pregnant. The following pictures were taken throughout my pregnancy...

Cinnamon Sugar Cake Donut

And these are just the ones I took pictures of! As my pregnancy progressed, the photo of the donut became an afterthought while getting the sweet, sugary goodness in my mouth became much more important.
