Here's my favorite recipe so far:
1 cup spinach
1 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 banana - best if it has some brown spots
1/4 cup greek yogurt (I like it best with Yoplait Honey Greek Yogurt)
1/4 cup water
Put it all in a blender, pour and enjoy.
I also have made one with frozen strawberries and it was really good too.
And then I went garden crazy and used some strawberries from the garden. It was a little more tart and I had to add some ice but it was still good.
There's a picture of the yogurt I use.
My next green smoothie goal is to try one with avocado. I hear they're good but we'll see. Have you tried it? I'm also curious about other ideas for green smoothies so if you have a favorite, send it my way.
I found this recipe on pinterest and it is my favorite so far...

I haven't tried the honey greek yogurt before..sounds good!
Oh that looks good. I bet the pineapple makes it really tasty!! Thanks for sharing.
DeleteIts so funny that this was your post!! I have been drinking smoothies before work, but have wanted to try to make something like the GREEN MACHINE or GREEN MONSTER (whatever the bottled green drinks are called). I was too nervous to just throw in some spinach, but now I might try it!! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh Heather, you should try it. It's really good and I'm not just saying that. I really like Odwalla's green machine too.
DeleteMmm! That sounds good! I'm making this for sure. I was telling my hubs about making smoothies with spinach and he gagged. Maybe I'll make it and not tell him that it's spinach and ask him to try it. Then when he says it's good (hopefully) I can say, "See, I told you spinach wasn't so bad."
ReplyDeleteIf you're making it for your husband, I'd do the blueberry one. The green color comes out a bit more with the strawberries so he might suspect something :)
DeleteThis looks so good! I usually make mine with just spinach, pineapple, and banana. Will have to try this now!
ReplyDeleteWe love green smoothies around here- especially my little guy who calls them "special drinks"! Our favorite is this one- I usually add a little ice to it (I like my smoothies to be thicker) but I am sure it would be just as good without ;-)

That seems to be a popular smoothie! There must be something to this pineapple business! Thanks for sharing!
DeleteWe love smoothies but I have not tried putting anything green in them yet. I'm going to try your recipe!!
ReplyDeleteI grew up on avocado shakes of sorts, they were so yummy and creamy. My family being Brazilian, avocados are fruits so everyone there eats them with sugar juxtaposed to here where its more of a savory thing people make guacamole with or add to sandwiches. It took me a while to like the savory side, but avocado in shakes/smoothies will always be my favorite. I hope you love it in ur smoothie, it'll prob have same creaminess a banana gives :D
ReplyDeleteOh wonderful! I'm going to have to make one the next time I have a nice, ripe avocado. I absolutely love the taste but have always used them in savory dishes. I'm excited to try it in a smoothie now. Thanks for the comment!!
DeleteHi Lesley, I love your blog but have never commented before. I posted on my blog how I made my own almond milk to make in smoothies, and it is so delicious and also pretty fun! My favorite smoothies are listed in the post, one being banana, pear and spinach. I also love raspberry peach and spinach, too. So good! Here's the link if you want to check it out. http://heidijoe.blogspot.com/2012/04/going-all-hippy.html
ReplyDeleteI am really into spinach smoothies right now! I will try this! Joy the Baker has a really yummy Super Spinach smoothie. She says to use amazing grass green powder but I don't have that. I have used matcha green tea powder but now i am out. It's yummy even without that. I use vanilla almond milk. That is the finishing touch in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteSuper Spinach Smoothie
1 ripe banana (frozen bananas are best in smoothies)
1 big heaping cup clean spinach leaves
1 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon amazing grass green powder
1 cup cold almond milk
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy immediately! Feel the health!
Thank you for this recipe. I love your photography, very inspiring! I have been drinking green smoothies for a few years now and managed to heal chronic fatigue syndrome as well as losing 56 pounds.
ReplyDeleteI invented 'Green Thickies' which are Green smoothies with oats and seeds/nuts as they are more filling and keep me going until my next meal. I don't have time for any snacks now I have a baby and only have time for one drink in the morning. I have loads of green smoothie, green thickie and yummy dessert thickie recipes on my website: http://www.greenthickies.com/recipes
Here is my latest recipe: http://www.greenthickies.com/strawberry-balsamic-salad-smoothie An unusual strawberry, basil balsamic recipe, strange but lovely and fresh.
I made the strawberry spinach smoothiing on Sunday...absolutely delicious!!! I used frozen banana instead of fresh so it was a little bit too thick but it was great to eat with a spoon. Great recipe. I love spinach in any form but this was extra great.

Personally, I don’t mind the taste of jamba juice menu mixed just with water. I feel that the benefits far outweigh any taste issues for me, but I know that this might not be the case with everyone.
